The state of Michigan certainly has its ups and downs, and when you find yourself bending your elbows at Kelly's Irish Pub in downtown Lansing then you're certainly on the high end of the state's stick. The place turns 40 years old this year and it's being ran by Lynne, a charming lady who poured me a fine Guinness accompanied with a Paddy's. The pour itself came in a 16oz glass which was unfortunate, but the delivery came with a smile.

Kelly's curb appeal is a lovely one, providing guests with a well-kept awning and patio table. The front door is well crafted with a beautiful Celtic cross right smack in the middle of it and the window out front has fun, seasonal decorations. Upon entry, you're introduced to the dining room with a drop-dead gorgeous view of the bar itself. The bar is a horseshoe style countertop that holds a mere 20 or so guests that allows for easy conversation. As you look around, you'll find an array of Irish flags, very authentic wall decor, various maps of Ireland, and unique objects that you certainly won't find in any chain restaurant but rather your ancestor's attic.

The ceiling tiles are beautiful with a perfect shade of green. The floor is nice and dark, the walls have exposed brick, and the furniture is worthy of the nod. There are plenty of nestled booths along the walls and dining tables near the window. The inside has good natural lighting during the daytime and it's dimly lit when the sun goes down. If you're sitting at the bar on a stool closer to the booths and look up, you'll notice a Kelly's quote that says, "try to keep up" and I absolutely love it.

Kelly's certainly delivers on making you feel nice and cozy. The colors, the signage, the music, and the hospitality separate Kelly's from the gimmicky Pubs out in the wild. Kelly's gives you the eye candy, the Craic, and that feel-good atmosphere that we all desperately crave out of a true Irish Pub. Not many Pubs out there can deliver on all aspects that make an Irish Pub an authentic one, however, you can rely on Lynne and her team to deliver that duty for you the next time you're in the Lansing area and looking for the Craic!

Your life may not be ruined if you never step foot inside Kelly's, but you're certainly missing out if you don't swing by. Kelly's gets two thumbs up from me and I can assure you that I'll be ordering another Guinness here again before I die.
