Irish Bob's. Youngstown, Ohio

3602 South Avenue

Guinness Tag: $4.00 | Overall Rating: 5.20

Not many people are going out of their way to check out the streets of Youngstown, Ohio. That's where I come in. I find myself saying this more often than not; I was born a few decades too late. There have been so many times where I chat with the staff at a Pub and they tell me crazy stories from "the 80's" and prior that would never even be a thought today, such as Crowley's Highland House in Cincinnati where at one point in time they actually had "midget tossing night" which would clearly get them banned and executed if they did that in today's world.

Irish Bob's used to have 10 cent wings and $4 pitchers of Killian's with a jukebox, music stage, and slots. Their prices may have gone up through the years but it's still one hell of a party and one of the most inexpensive places in town. The owners and people who run the place are fantastic. They will genuinely take interest in you as a guest and welcome you to the conversation at hand. They are festive with their seasonal decorations and they keep the place clean for a "not so clean" looking place.

When you pull up to the building, you'll notice the door is locked. You must be buzzed in to get through the door and I love it. If only they implemented a "password" system like they did in the movie "Beerfest"; now that would be fun! When you grab a barstool you'll also notice that they don't have any Guinness on tap. It's always a bit of a stinker when the only Guinness available is through a bottle but it's never the end of the world when it happens.

Irish Bob's is a cash only spot that offers steel tip darts, plastic darts, a live music stage, slot machines, pool tables, a jukebox, and a fantastically grungy toiletry that delivers the duty. The bar itself is a fun horseshoe that allows everyone to chat together and bring out the Craic. There are enough TV's for gamedays and by the way, these people are Browns fans so gamedays are a party.

To keep this one short and sweet I'll end it with this. Is Irish Bob's a proper Pub? Hell no, and nobody asked for it to be. Is Irish Bob's incredibly authentic with the Irish culture? Not really. Does it provide the Craic and a cheap place to lay low and meet friends? Abso-freakin'-lutely. I don't recommend that you go out of your way to make it to Youngstown but if you happen to be driving through it; why not stop at Irish Bob's for a quick pick me up? I think you'll be glad if you did.

Slainte, Irish Bob's! It was fun!
