Price for a Guinness: $8 | Overall Rating: 6.90

This place is a bit of a Cincinnati staple, however, that doesn't mean you should cancel your day plans and rush to the door. It's a neat place with some history attached to it. It's been known as Murphy's for a little over 50 years and for about 20 years prior to that it was called Mahoney's.
The bartender is a friendly guy who also keeps to himself for the most part. Guinness isn't the most popular draft being poured here as it runs a steep $8 and it's rarely poured in terrific fashion. It's currently the most expensive pour of Guinness out of all the Irish Pubs in Cincinnati.

Murphy's has 6 Steel Tip dart boards, a pool table, and plenty of space to hang out. It's a college bar at the end of the day where you'll find students from UC shooting Cherry Bombs and playing trap music on the jukebox. The last time that I walked in it was at 12:30pm on a Saturday and got carded at the door, even though I was the first and only one in the building throughout my entire visit. By the way, the dart boards have all seen better days.

For how much of a college hangout this place is, it's actually pretty clean, especially the bathrooms. The layout of the place is also pretty neat as it's basically 3 big rooms with a few little nooks and crannies. When you come at night, you'll be elbow to elbow with sweaty dudes and loud ladies.

The Whiskey selection is about average while offering Red Breast and of course, Paddy's. There are about 8 beers on tap and every type of seltzer available in the fridge. Behind the bar there are 3 TVs, but I don't believe too many people are coming here for NFL Sundays. The TVs are more for the casual viewing to keep awkward people occupied with something.

Overall, it's a cool spot. I believe that nostalgia is a great thing to have but nostalgia alone can only go so far. At the end of the day, you still have to deliver on all of the other things. I don't believe I am undercutting this establishment when giving it a 6.90. If you're not even in the conversation when it comes to picking a place to hang out at for the evening; you are not worthy of being scored over 7.0. Although, everyone in Cincinnati has at least heard of this place, but it appears that the nostalgia is heavier than the current product.
